To my first baby, we're only a few short weeks away from you entering this world as a fresh Kindergarten student. I can still hear you and your Pre-K friends belting this song on your Pre-K Graduation Ceremony night. I had the privilege as working at your school as the Director and that allowed me to shake your little hand to formally graduate you to this next phase.
I am coming to terms with the fact that in a few short weeks you will be spreading your wings in this world and venturing out on your own as a kid; not a baby, toddler or preschooler anymore. You will be forging your own path with the ideas, lessons and friendships we've gathered through the past 5 years.
It seems like only yesterday when they put your tiny body next to mine and when you found your Mom, you settled. I remember it with such vivid detail. I always will. You are my first born child and you've taught, strengthened and grown alongside me in my journey into motherhood. I could never imagine life without the love you made me capable of.
I know that you will feel nervous, excited and homesick stepping into the Kindergarten doors. But bubs you are meant to let your light shine, even when it feels uncomfortable. Like we always say, "That's the point, you're growing!"
May this year fill you with knowledge, lessons, friendships and challenges to work through. My hope is that you will keep giving the world that giant grin with the emotion in your eyes. You can't go wrong by showing others you're genuine side, even if they decide not to like it. Be true to yourself and you will be right where you need to be.
Although I won't get to bring you to school and give you a "love you, lock it" during the day, I'll be sure to have one waiting for you at home. You can always find me in your heart when you need to reset.
I love you so much Kiddo. We are all so proud of you and we think your next journey is your bravest one yet! Come home and tell us all about it, we can't wait to hear your stories.
Love you, LOCK IT
Mama
